Take Action

VIVA is dedicated to reducing secondhand smoke exposure and providing tobacco cessation resources in multi-unit housing complexes, health care facilities, and community colleges/trade schools. But we can’t do it alone. WE NEED THE COMMUNITY TO TAKE ACTION. Help take a stand against Big Tobacco by completing the surveys below.

Protect Community Residents from Secondhand Smoke Exposure

Smoke-free living spaces are critical to ensure people are protected from involuntary exposure to secondhand smoke. We all deserve the right to breathe clean air in our homes, whether we live in a house, apartment, or condominium.

The facts are clear:

  • The home is the main place where children are exposed to secondhand smoke.2
  • Secondhand smoke can travel from one unit to the next through cracks on the wall, plumbing and ventilation system. Smoke from balconies and outdoor common areas can also travel to nearby windows and doorway entrances.2
  • No form of ventilation can eliminate indoor secondhand smoke and the only way to prevent exposure is through a 100% smoke-free living space.2

There is no safe level of secondhand smoke exposure and we, as Hanford residents, are urging council to consider taking action that will protect anyone living in multi-unit housing properties from involuntary exposure to secondhand smoke in their home.

Protect College Students from Secondhand Smoke Exposure

Smoke-free learning spaces are critical to ensure people are protected from involuntary exposure to secondhand smoke. We all deserve the right to breathe clean air where we learn and work.
